Flagship companies

The economic fabric of Vendée features many examples of small businesses that have grown, in the space of one or two generations, into prominent companies recognised both in France and abroad. For several years now, these key players of local industry have been joined by other major French and international companies that have set up for business in the county:
- Bénéteau (shipbuilding)
- Sodeb'O (agri-food)
- Cougnaud (construction of modular buildings)
- Louis Vuitton (leather goods/luxury)
- Ponroy Santé (pharmaceutical company)
- Selden Mast (manufacture of masts and fittings)
Several of these companies have developed investment projects involving sustainable construction, and in particular Bénéteau, which is launching a wood framework house construction business in 2009, as well as CAVAC, which is creating a production facility for natural insulating materials based on flax and hemp for construction.
